Caring for your Mask
The Frontline masks are commercially sewn and come in three sizes. The Citizen masks are one-size-fits-most. They are proudly sewn by WNC independent sewers, so there will be some slight variation. The filter slides into the pocket between the layers. If you do not use a filter, the mask still has some effectiveness. Depending on which mask type you have, you will find one or two filter openings on the inner layer.
Wash Your Mask Before Using
We have tried to keep masks as touch-free as possible, but we recommend washing your mask before using it.
Masks are Washable!
The masks are made of cotton and may be washed and reused many times. Wash with warm soapy water.
Dry on Low
Dry on low heat. Do not dry the mask on high heat. It may damage the elastic.
Remove the Filter Before Washing!
If you have a filter in your mask, remove it before washing the mask.
Sanitize the Filter
You can sanitize the filter by removing it from the mask and placing it by itself in an oven at 165 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes.
Remove the filter material before washing. Take care to note the orientation of the filter (outside/inside) as the outside should be considered dirty.
Always handle your clean mask with clean, freshly washed hands.
Keep it Dry
Make sure the mask stays dry while wearing it. When masks get wet, even from the moisture emitted by exhalation, the fabric is a less effective barrier.
Wash frequently
Keeping several masks in circulation allows for one to always be in the wash cycle.
